Underground Pewster (An excellent author at Not Another Episcopal Church Blog) has been following the story of Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani who was sentenced to death for "Apostasy" for preaching the Gospel.
Pastor Nadarkhani was offered a pardon if he would simply recant his faith but praise God, Pastor Nadarkhani a family man called by God to preach, has chosen to remain faithful, standing firm even unto death! Following in the footsteps of countless Christian men and women before him he has chosen to die rather than turn his back on Christ... if only we could be so faithful.
This man will be put to death for sharing the same faith as us. He is our Brother in Christ and an inspiration to countless numbers of Christians in persecuted lands, and yet all he asks for is prayer.
Pray that his family will remain strong and dedicated to Christ.
Pray that the Lord may save him from his peril.
Pray that his willingness to die for Christ will inspire a renewed Christian witness in Iran
But I ask you to do one more thing in addition to praying, go to Christian Solidarity Worldwide's website and show your horror at this attack on Religious freedom and the Christian faith by sending an email (through the site) to the Iranian Embassy. According to the site over 27,000 people have emailed but I have to agree with Underground Pewster who says that "we can do better than that!"
So take a minute, send an email, support a Christian and potentially save a life!

instrução, a “BÍBLIA SAGRADA!”
E começar a questionar!
me falou a verdade? Ela volta? A
bíblia apóia o homossexualismo? Quem não herdara o reino de Deus? O que
devo saber sobre idolatria, imagens e escultura? O que devo saber sobre o
único batismo? Será que tem uma seqüência para salvação? A quem eu devo me
confessar, quem pode me perdoar? Religião salva alguém? Essas e outras

Well, it's always helpful to have an answer posted completely in a foreign language. I am a little troubled by this very simplistic news story about a man who is going to be executed because he won't renounce Jesus. What are the circumstances here, since there are many Christians in Iran who are not being threatened by death? Why is he referred to a "pastor"? Why have none of the major media, left or right wing picked up this story?
I am particularly concerned that the political voices calling for his release are all listed as Republican, and they are some of the nastier Republicans at that---I refer you to Rick Perry who wants everyone executed. There are no Democrats who are Christians and want to save this man?
I suspect this may be a much more complicated story that in first appears, especially since charges like rape and murder are also being made against "The Pastor."
I have written the letter because I have a great deal of affection and respect for UP, on whose blog I first heard about it. But there is something that is not quite right here.
Thanks for the comments and thank the Lord for Google Translator! :)
Toil Not Spin - I certainly understand your feelings, It is often hard in these situations to know what is right and what is just propaganda. What we do know is that according to a translated Iranian Supreme Court brief from 2010 states (quoted by the Huffington Post) that 32-year-old Nadarkhani "is convicted of turning his back on Islam, the greatest religion, the prophesy of Mohammad at the age of 19." which carries the death penalty.
We also know that he has appeared in court three times this week and was asked each day to renounce his faith to secure an annulment of the apostasy charge and a lifting of the death sentence. He refused each time.
However you are right to say that the Iranian government has come out in the last couple of days (the case has been going on since 2009)to claim that he is facing the death penalty for rape, or zionism, or extortion, or for being a threat to the state, or for running a brothel depending on who you're talking to. Though Jordan Sekulow, the Executive Director of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), said that “There’s been no mention of any other charges than apostasy in trial documents,” he said. According to documents that the ACLJ has translated, Nadarkhani was sentenced to hanging for “turning his back on Islam” and “converting Muslims to Christianity".
As for his title of "Pastor", he is an Evangelical preacher who led a successful and growing 'house church' of some 400 souls.
I'm in the UK and the story has been picked up by most of the press, both right and left and I thought the same was true in America? CNN and FOX have both reported on it, Amnesty International has commented, CBN, Christianity Today, Reuters and even the Moral Liberal have all come out in support. As have many members of Congress including the speaker of the house.
